Engagement Party!!!!

We are so excited that our son is getting married to this beautiful girl!!

This weekend, we celebrated with an engagement party!

Despite the wind, all went well and fun was had by all!!!

The invitation turned out so cute and the boys made their "famous" BBQ sauce to give as gifts!

We had pulled pork and all the fixin’s as well as assorted drinks.

We decorated with lights, lanterns, pictures of them as kids and signs.

We had a great turnout of family and friends!

We love her family!

WHEW! Randomness…..

So I haven’t posted in a while. Seems like it has been a very busy and unusual summer. We are in some kind of weird tropical depression and it rains here everyday. The mosquitoes are loving it! My garden is over-grown and in desperate need of weeding but it won’t stop raining long enough to get anything done!

I have been busy helping people decorate. No I don’t get paid! LOL My daughter and I flew….by flew I mean drove.. to a friend’s house in Plano and did a speed decorating job. When we got there we were so shocked to find that she had nothing. When I say nothing, that is exactly what I mean. Her and her new husband bought a aprox 5000 sq ft house and it was (still is) basically empty except for a new table in breakfast area, furniture (from his bachelor pad) in the family room, and furniture in 3 of the 5 bedrooms. Now that means…no pictures, no decorator items…NADA. So on a strict budget we attempted to decorate the kitchen, family room and entry. This means her formal dining, living, and office remain empty. We shopped all day Saturday and decorated, moved furniture, etc until the wee hours of the night and left at 10am Sunday morning. Yes, I have pictures but seriously….they just don’t do it justice. She needs lots and lots more but it was a start. It looks good and I am patting us on the back…but it still needs lots more done.

My friends beautiful home

A couple of weeks ago I helped my son’s girlfriend decorate their house. We changed it from a bachelor pad to a home. It is looking good. Then this past week, I helped my 81-year-old mother-in-law re-decorate her retirement village cottage. Now wrapping my head around the wants of an 81-year-old was difficult. I have definite ideas about decorating so it has been a challenge to make her happy. I have used the saying, “less is more” enough that I think she finally either gets it or just gave in!!! She was so sweet and really listened and let me pick out her new couch and chair. Then she let me take tons of her collectibles and put them away!!! I finished this afternoon with my sweet husbands help!

Now, my daughter is having her entire house dug up! Well, the plumbing is bad and they are literally jack hammering the floors and putting in all new underground pipe! So it will be a while but she is getting new tile, counter-tops, back-splash and possibly new bathroom tile etc. I am sure this means trim work and paint also. So I am guessing we will be busy in a few weeks getting them back to normal. They stayed with us for about a week but now are in one of those hotels made for long stays. I am hoping everything gets done fast, 2 babies in a hotel will get old soon!

We haven’t had a vacation yet…. well that is a lie. We went to the lake and then to the Jimmy Buffett concert in May and then back to the lake for a weekend. Hoping for a relaxing stay in Corpus in a few weeks. My husband has a pinched nerve or slipped disk so the MRI will tell us whether we get to go or stay and have surgery!

Random craziness from tailgating at the Buffett concert...no we don't know them!

Anyway.. I am finished rambling on and on. However, I would like to ask for prayers for my best-friend who is battling cancer. She goes in for a procedure tomorrow to biopsy 2 possible malignancies. They will do it while she is in a cat scan, it is a very specialized procedure. I just pray that it is benign and for her total and complete recovery. We love you PK!!!!!!!!!!!!

What are little boys made of?

Isn’t my little grandson precious???

He is adorable but he is all boy. We found them in the garden after the Easter egg hunt having a dirt fight and eating the dirt.

I have to mention that we JUST added manure to the garden on Saturday!!!!

Boys will be boys!

This one….doesn’t like dirt, she likes pretty things….

“Sugar and spice and all things nice…..”

Hope everyone had a wonderful Easter!!!!

I love my daughter~

I have written blogs showcasing my grand-babies, my son and his girlfriend, even my husband (who really wants to be left out), my best friend and of course tons of decorating…..but somehow I haven’t said a lot about my daughter.  I probably haven’t done this because I honestly wouldn’t know where to start. She is a truly amazing person. She is my best friend, my confidant, my conscience, my everything. Not a day goes by that we don’t talk or at least text several times. We laugh, cry, gossip, shop, worship, decorate, problem-solve, cook, clean, re-model, re-evaluate and commiserate TOGETHER! She is the one that when I ask if my butt is too big for theses pants…she answers honestly. Is this hair cut too old lady? She will tell me. She is never hateful or harsh but I know she will be truthful.

We have so much fun together just meeting at our favorite stores or talking about our favorite subject….her babies! Could life be any sweeter?

She is the best mother, wife, sister, friend, and daughter in the world. She is honestly beautiful…beautiful physically but most of all beautiful inside.  Not a day goes by that I don’t thank the Lord for blessing me with her!! We have survived so much together.

Thank you Lord for my precious daughter. You are the very air I breathe!

Australia Bound

My son’s girlfriend surprised him with a trip to Australia for his Christmas gift.

She took pictures while he was opening his surprise. He has dreamed of going there since he was a little boy.

All I have to say about these pictures is ….”PRICELESS!”

Reading the letter she wrote him....

Opening the gift basket....

The adorable basket...

Guess what....they are going to Australia!!!

A New Year is on its way….

Christmas is over and it was wonderful. This year was extra special for several reasons! Of course, our 2 precious grand-babies made it so fun. Mai was just so excited about Christmas and Jax was just learning the whole concept. Being with them and watching them experience the holidays was a blessing. Our daughter and son in law moved into a new home recently and we enjoyed spending part of the holidays with them in their lovely house! We are so proud of and for them!!

Mai and Jax in her new jeep...she was a little scared and thought it would be "loud."

Our son is so happy and we got to enjoy spending the holidays with the reason he is so happy….his girlfriend Kasey. She is an amazing girl and he is so in love and happy because of her.  She had a huge surprise for him this Christmas and we all were waiting anxiously to see his reaction. So on Wed, Dec 23 she couldn’t wait any longer and gave him his gift. She is taking him to Australia in March. Yes! Australia! He has dreamed of going there since he was a little boy. He is walking on air. He called at midnight after receiving the surprise! He was in shock and so very touched.  I have prayed for his future mate for years and years.

Yes, I think she is the one. Thank you Lord!!

Finally it was special because for the first time in years it SNOWED!!!

from our front window...

Now comes down the decorations and I always like the way the house feels.

It is almost empty feeling but so clean. I always wonder what I had on this table and on that shelf.

Now you all know what happens….

I want it to be spring!!!

There are several months of cold, wintry weather left (we are expecting more of the white stuff tonight)

so I will try to stop myself from thinking of planting flowers and of green, green grass.

Now I have a project and I need your help! A week before Christmas we had our old television taken down and a carpenter filled in the space.

The guys hung a new flat screen TV above the fireplace. Now there is no room for decor!! Help, I need ideas! It needs something BAD!!!! Ideas?

FYI: the mantle is very narrow (like 4 inches wide on each end!)

So boring..nothing fits below and it can't have a big base...whatever "it" is!

I was thinking it needs something tall like maybe a topiary….I found these today. Not really into fake ivy. It is still so empty looking.

Is less REALLY more???? Help!!!

Still so boring...don't you think?

The Nutcracker

Saturday was such a special day for me, my daughter, and grand-daughter. This was Mai’s first time to go to the Nutcracker. She wore her prettiest dress, ate lunch with just us girls, and got 2 ballerina dolls! She never took her eyes off of all the pretty ballerinas and did pretty good with the Rat King (even though she covered her eyes when she saw him the first time.) Then she got her picture made with some of the ballerinas and Claire. The ballerina that played Claire was Summer’s flower girl….how time flies…and she is so talented! So begins another tradition….can’t wait to take my son’s little girl someday!!!! Of course I am just wishing here….he isn’t even married…..YET!!
