Some of my favorite things…

I honestly wasn’t going to post any of my Christmas decor this year! I really scaled back and didn’t do much different or exciting.  However, this is a lazy day for us and I can hear my hubby snoring (oh I meant softly breathing) from the bedroom! I have kind of fallen into the “white” trend and used more of it this year. I REALLY, REALLY want a white flocked tree and as much as I love the way my tree looks…it has about had it.  Anyway, thought I would share a few of my favorite things. So here goes…..

Ordered these paper whites from Ballards...the box had a chip so they sent me a new one and didn't want this one returned!! So my daughter got one too!!!

Found these white "awesome" pillows at TJ Maxx and they make me feel all calm and peaceful when I look at them...seriously they do!

I love this wood it! I mean LOVE LOVE it!!! Loving these bright green balls too!

Here it is next to my white chairs....try not to notice the "black" cat hair...ugh!

I love little birds and their houses.....

I love burlap...found this on a girls trip to Grapevine and bought all they had! My tree skirt is burlap too!

Same stockings, I just painted the letters white and distressed them...

Our antique bar...very simple this year.

Won this great green container at our annual neighborhood Chinese Christmas....perfect color!

My dining room table decor…the runner is…yes….burlap!

And now….seriously don’t know why I bought this!

Hmmm...still can't decide. Bought this at a neighborhood party, still not sure I like it. You can take it apart and it becomes 4 little trees. Just couldn't find anywhere to put it.

Have a great week and a wonderful Christmas!!!!!!

Love ya!!

Great DIY Christmas Ideas!

Today I was searching for some Christmas decor ideas and came across these great blogs! For all you do-it-yourselfers out there, these are fun and money saving ideas! I may have to head to Hobby Lobby in the morning!

Pottery Barn

Have you all drooled over this Noel at my favorite store? Head over to Frugal Flourish and she has a DIY to make the same sign for next to nothing!

Thanks Britt for sending me the link!

How adorable is this mantle? The DIY for these glitter trees can be found at eighteen 25 as well as the banner and the free download for the subway print!

I have already downloaded the print!

I have been decorating all day and I am sooo tired. So off to bed I go but definitely headed to the craft store early in the morning!!!!

WHEW! Randomness…..

So I haven’t posted in a while. Seems like it has been a very busy and unusual summer. We are in some kind of weird tropical depression and it rains here everyday. The mosquitoes are loving it! My garden is over-grown and in desperate need of weeding but it won’t stop raining long enough to get anything done!

I have been busy helping people decorate. No I don’t get paid! LOL My daughter and I flew….by flew I mean drove.. to a friend’s house in Plano and did a speed decorating job. When we got there we were so shocked to find that she had nothing. When I say nothing, that is exactly what I mean. Her and her new husband bought a aprox 5000 sq ft house and it was (still is) basically empty except for a new table in breakfast area, furniture (from his bachelor pad) in the family room, and furniture in 3 of the 5 bedrooms. Now that means…no pictures, no decorator items…NADA. So on a strict budget we attempted to decorate the kitchen, family room and entry. This means her formal dining, living, and office remain empty. We shopped all day Saturday and decorated, moved furniture, etc until the wee hours of the night and left at 10am Sunday morning. Yes, I have pictures but seriously….they just don’t do it justice. She needs lots and lots more but it was a start. It looks good and I am patting us on the back…but it still needs lots more done.

My friends beautiful home

A couple of weeks ago I helped my son’s girlfriend decorate their house. We changed it from a bachelor pad to a home. It is looking good. Then this past week, I helped my 81-year-old mother-in-law re-decorate her retirement village cottage. Now wrapping my head around the wants of an 81-year-old was difficult. I have definite ideas about decorating so it has been a challenge to make her happy. I have used the saying, “less is more” enough that I think she finally either gets it or just gave in!!! She was so sweet and really listened and let me pick out her new couch and chair. Then she let me take tons of her collectibles and put them away!!! I finished this afternoon with my sweet husbands help!

Now, my daughter is having her entire house dug up! Well, the plumbing is bad and they are literally jack hammering the floors and putting in all new underground pipe! So it will be a while but she is getting new tile, counter-tops, back-splash and possibly new bathroom tile etc. I am sure this means trim work and paint also. So I am guessing we will be busy in a few weeks getting them back to normal. They stayed with us for about a week but now are in one of those hotels made for long stays. I am hoping everything gets done fast, 2 babies in a hotel will get old soon!

We haven’t had a vacation yet…. well that is a lie. We went to the lake and then to the Jimmy Buffett concert in May and then back to the lake for a weekend. Hoping for a relaxing stay in Corpus in a few weeks. My husband has a pinched nerve or slipped disk so the MRI will tell us whether we get to go or stay and have surgery!

Random craziness from tailgating at the Buffett we don't know them!

Anyway.. I am finished rambling on and on. However, I would like to ask for prayers for my best-friend who is battling cancer. She goes in for a procedure tomorrow to biopsy 2 possible malignancies. They will do it while she is in a cat scan, it is a very specialized procedure. I just pray that it is benign and for her total and complete recovery. We love you PK!!!!!!!!!!!!

Be true to who you are….

Do you ever go blog surfing and think….I HATE my house?  I wish my house looked like that? I want to change everything? I catch myself doing this all the time! The fact is that most of us can’t change everything and (even if we could afford to) our homes or lifestyles may not support some of the “in” styles.  I just recently ran across these great posts and they are totally how I feel about decorating! Thanks ladies for telling it the way it is or should be! When you get a chance read My Top 10 Biggest Decorating Mistakes at The Nesting Place and my absolute favorite, Finding Your Style (what you won’t see in my home) at Southern Hospitality.

It is very nice to know that others feel the way I do!

Reading these just made me feel better, hope they do you too!!!!

Phew..we have been busy!

We have been really busy around here! We decided it was time to do a little updating. This kind of updating is not as fun as new paint and furniture but it needed to be done. Our door handles and  knobs were all gold, our faucets and bath fixtures gold and silver, and our ceiling fans were white with gold. So we ordered all new and have been busy changing out knobs and door handles, hiring plumbers, and waiting! Our shower door, fans and bath lighting are still not in!

New kitchen knobs

Door handles

Roman tub faucets

By the way, oil rubbed bronze spray paint is amazing!

We had to use it on our pocket door handles because they don’t make them anymore. No one would ever know we sprayed them…

Of course I thought I had to have a new picture! I am really into botanicals!

As you know, when you start one project it leads to another.

Our TV room holds 2 leather chairs, 1 side chair and our antique bar. I have wanted seating for at least 4 in here forever. After searching and searching I finally found 2 chairs that didn’t overwhelm the room.  I found these at Grandin Road and I think it makes the room lighter and more open. Since I love gardening so much, I just totally went with the garden theme….now I call it the Garden room…LOL.

Sorry about the glare...

Then I had to plant something!!! It is still a little too early here to plant yet…we are expecting a freeze later this week. So I planted some herbs in little pots I painted with chalkboard paint and even had to plant some lavender. The house smells so good!

I love this little beverage stand..I use it for everything...except beverages!!!

We are almost done and hopefully I can get to my true passion soon…..Gardening!!

Hopefully the wind will stop blowing long enough for me to get started soon!!!!!!

Have a wonderful week!!

A little Spring in my step….

The last few days I have been under the weather with some kind of bug. I actually went to the doctor and he frankly had no idea what I had other than just something that is going around. So today I am feeling a little better but (under orders from my hubby) should not over do it.  So I thought I would share my little “spring up” I did to my house last week during another unusual snow day in West Texas!

It really was beautiful...

I started with my antique bar and added gardening books and some green bottles and flowers.

Then moved to the coffee table and used gardening books again and an outdoor vase with white hydrangeas.

Added this vase (that my daughter really wanted but kindly let me buy) to my fireplace mantle.

A couple of bright pillows……a little nest…

Moved some things around and added a vase or two…

…added a burlap runner…

I think this pot should be cream or white… the sun is out…think I feel like painting a little.

What do you think? I can paint it brown again this fall….

Oh and I moved it to my kitchen island from my dining…should I distress? I couldn’t decide.

…and finally my new favorite thing.  My hubby gave me $$ for my birthday and I bought this great clock!

I love, love, love it but have honestly had a hard time finding a place to put it in my house.

So goodbye Blues was past time….

It is supposed to be in the 60’s for the rest of the week here so everyone especially my sweet little Mai…GET WELL!!!!

Feeling kinda blue…

The last few weeks have been cold, snowy, and rainy.

I have a major case of cabin fever!

Can I just say one thing? Snow, snow go away!!

I haven’t used much blue in my house in years and years

but I have a feeling I will soon.

At least a splash of blue here and there.

Here are a few blue rooms that make my heart go pitter patter!!

I love padded headboards and I actually know how to make them. Let me know if you ever need help.

I would love this in my guest room...hmmmm......
