Today as I lay around and enjoy the long weekend, I have to reflect on the reason for this holiday. At this very moment young men and women are risking their lives to keep me safe. Some have given the ultimate sacrifice so that I can live the life of freedom.
We have several friends whose sons are in Iraq today. They are in constant prayer for their sons yet are so proud that they have chosen this path. How selfish I feel!
Today should be a time of solemn reflection on some of the most sacred of human ideals: Faith, family, duty, commitment, heroism and honor. We are so profoundly indebted to all those soldiers, Marines, sailors and airmen who have given their lives defending us. This Memorial Day let’s take a few minutes and say a prayer for our troops and remember those that gave their lives.“Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. Amen.”
